How to Make Aftershave

Aftershave is an all-in-one antiseptic, moisturizer and mild cologne. You can make your own effective aftershave using natural ingredients found in the grocery store. This recipe uses witch hazel for its antiseptic and skin-soothing properties, olive oil as a moisturizer and citrus peels and herbs for a masculine fresh scent.

Step 1

Pour 1 cup of witch hazel, 1 tbsp. olive oil, 1/2 cup orange peels sliced into thin strips, 1 sprig of fresh rosemary, 1 cinnamon stick and 4 cloves into a glass jar. Screw the lid onto the glass jar.

Step 2

Shake the jar to combine the ingredients. Store the glass jar in a cool dark cupboard for 2 weeks to allow the ingredients to infuse together. Shake the jar once a day to mix the ingredients.

Step 3

Strain the herbs from the aftershave through a fine sieve into a bowl. Transfer the aftershave from the bowl into the container of your choosing. A rinsed-out old aftershave container works well. To transfer the aftershave, place a funnel into the aftershave container. Pour the aftershave out of the bowl, through the funnel and into the aftershave container. Place a cap on the aftershave container. Refrigerate the aftershave so that it has a cooling effect on the skin.
