Almost 30,000 men in the United States die of prostate cancer and related issues each year. Keeping your prostate gland healthy is much easier than you might think. Because you may have prostate trouble and not even know it, preventive maintenance is the key to good health.

Step 1

Perform a prostate check on yourself every month. Because it's somewhat difficult to perform an effective prostate self-exam, ask your doctor for trusted medical advice and proper instruction and methods.

Step 2

Eat right. It's especially important to maintain a healthy diet to prevent prostate problems. The usual advice to eat green vegetables and vitamin-rich fruits holds true, so you should consume at least five to seven servings of fruits and vegetables every day.

Step 3

Add fish to your diet for the healthy fats. Cod and salmon are excellent choices, and are quick and easy to prepare. Fried foods must be reduced from your diet, although eating french fries once a month won’t hurt you. By watching what you eat, you reduce free radicals in your body, helping to prevent major illnesses in the future.

Step 4

Take proper dietary supplements daily. Begin with a good multivitamin made especially for men and take it every day. Add zinc supplements for prostate health, and you'll probably experience fewer colds as a bonus.

Step 5

Combine saw palmetto with stinging nettle extract, green tea extract, lycopene and selenium to create a powerhouse combination of nutrients for prostate health. Herbs and nutrients work together--whether you're taking dietary supplements or simply eating the right foods--so combination supplements often get better results than a single supplement taken individually.
