Sinus Buster is a nasal spray made by Buster Brands, used to help improve nasal congestion, sinus pressure and pain. Sinusbuster.com claims that its product is 100 percent natural, and starts to relieve sinus symptoms in less than a minute. The ingredients in Sinus Buster combine to deliver relief to those suffering from sinus congestion.
Capsaicin
Capsaicin is derived from cayenne pepper and is the common active ingredient in Buster Nasal Sprays, including Sinus Buster. Sinusbuster.com states that capsaicin is one of the most highly researched botanical ingredient. They also report that capsaicin desensitizes the mucous membranes and blocks the chemical messenger that sends pain signals to the brain. It also increases mucous production, helping to flush out allergens and bacteria. Capsaicin also dilates blood vessels to relieve sinus headaches. A study published by "Allergy" found that intranasal capsaicin spray gives a significant reduction in nonallergic and noninfectious rhinitis, or sinus congestion patients. Another research study done by "Clinical and Experimental Allergy" proposed that capsaicin helps reduce inflammation in the nasal mucosa. The Sinus Buster website lists over 40 clinical studies documenting the effectiveness of capsaicin in treating sinus congestion symptoms.
Eucalyptol
Eucalyptol, listed as an inactive ingredient in Sinus Buster, is derived from the leaves and oil of the eucalyptus tree. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, eucalyptus oil contains substances with strong antibacterial, expectorant and antiseptic properties. The leaves are also believed to help to reduce inflammation. They state that medications containing eucalyptus are applied to the nose to relieve congestion.
Ascorbic Acid
Ascorbic acid, or vitamin C, is an inactive ingredient listed in Sinus Buster. Medline Plus explains that the use of vitamin C in the prevention or treatment of the common cold remains controversial. More than 30 clinical trials have been conducted, and found that no significant reduction in the risk of developing a cold; however they did find a small reduction in the duration of colds with the use of vitamin C.
Rosemary Extract
Rosemary extract is also an inactive ingredient in Sinus Buster. Drugs.com states that rosemary is a known antimicrobial agent, including antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties.
Other Ingredients
Other listed inactive ingredients in Sinus Buster are purified water and vegetable glycerin as moisturizers. Sea salt is the final listed ingredient. A study done by "The Laryngoscope" found that patients using sea salt via a nasal irrigation system had significantly better symptom relief and improved quality of life scores as compared to a sterile saline solution.
