Whether you are a high school senior with years of running experience or a freshman just getting into the sport, a summer running camp can benefit you greatly. Although school is out for the summer, use this time to begin training for your cross country runs. Whether you live in Colorado or simply wish to visit the scenic state, consider attending a summer cross country running camp in Colorado.
Air Force Academy Cross Country & Distance Camp
Located just north of Colorado Springs at the base of the Rocky Mountains, the United States Air Force Academy offers multiple sports camps every year. At an elevation of 7,000 feet, the five-day cross country camp adds an interesting element of altitude to the sport. Camp participants have the option to either board at a camp dormitory or commute to the camp for the five days. During the day, campers will explore the area trails and parks on distance runs. When campers are not running, they will participate in instructional coaching sessions on proper nutrition, injury prevention, race tactics and team-building techniques. In the evenings, campers who are boarding at the dormitory can participate in a variety of supervised activities. The camp is open to males and females ages 13 through 18.

Brocaw Blazers Cross Country Camp
Although the Brocaw Blazers cross country team resides in Kansas, the running club offers an annual summer camp in Pueblo, Colorado. While campers lodge in one of the area's hotels during camp, many of the camp activities occur on the Colorado State University campus. Two runs are offered daily and all campers must participate in at least one of them. Throughout the runs, campers receive instruction on running form, mental training and altitude training. A variety of instructional workshops are also available to campers. These sessions include information on preventing injuries, biomechanics, nutrition, sports psychology, stretching and college recruiting. During off-hours, campers can participate in a variety of activities, including swimming, tennis, basketball, hiking, games, magic shows and talent shows. As a special treat, campers also have the opportunity to participate in a midnight run on one of the camp nights. The camp is available to all runners in grades 8 through 12.

Every year, the Boulder Running Camp takes place on the University of Colorado's campus. On most days, campers will be bused to various locations 10 to 15 minutes away from the campus. Upon arrival at these locations, campers will be led on a training run through Boulder's many trails. Each day, campers only participate in one run. When not running, campers participate in daily informational sessions on exercise physiology and training principles, among other topics. During the evenings, recreational activities include bowling, group games, movies and social activities. The camp is open to all high school runners.
