Home Remedies for Anxiety Attacks

Anxiety attacks, also referred to as panic attacks, are a sudden intense feeling of tension and fear caused by an unidentifiable source. The attacks are terrifying to the person experiencing them. A person may feel they are losing control and are at risk of dying. Symptoms of having an anxiety attack include shortness of breath, increased heart rate, sweating and trembling. Symptoms peak at 10 minutes, and the attack usually lasts about 30 minutes. A variety of home remedies can decrease anxiety attacks and promote relaxation.

Caffeine and Alcohol

Avoid drinking caffeine or alcohol. Both ingredients can trigger a panic attack and make symptoms worse.

Excercise

Include exercise and aerobic activity in your daily routine. From simple daily walks around the neighborhood to signing up for an exercise class, physical activity can decrease tension and stress.

Herbal Teas

Drink relaxation teas. Chamomile, lavender and thyme are all teas that promote stress reduction. Consume two to three cups daily.

Deep Breathing and Meditation

Learn deep breathing techniques. Combine breathing exercises and meditation, and practice on a daily basis.

Massage

Use essential oils and massage. Receiving a massage can relax both the body and the mind. Have the massage therapist use essential oils, such as lavender, which aid in relaxation and decrease the chance of an anxiety attack.

Bath Soaks

Add a few drops of essential oils into a warm bath. Soak in the tub for 20 minutes to ease both the muscles and the mind.
