According to the American Hair Loss Association, hair grows about .3 to .4mm per day, or 6 inches a year. The anagen phase is when hair is actively growing, where cells in the roots are developing. New hairs form in this phase and push out hairs which are no longer growing. The telogen phase is the resting phase. On average, you shed 25 to 100 telogen hairs daily. Massaging essential oils along with vitamin E into your scalp may stimulate hair follicles; however, there is no scientific evidence to support the efficacy of this approach. Check with your doctor if you are experiencing unusual hair loss as it may be the sign of a medical problem.

Step 1

Add 1 oz. of vitamin E oil to the bottle of jojoba oil. Shake the bottle to mix it well.

Step 2

Add 15 to 20 drops of rosemary essential oil to the jojoba oil blend.

Step 3

Add 10 to 15 drops of lavender essential oil to the jojoba oil blend.

Step 4

Screw the cap back on and lightly roll the jojoba oil blend in your hands for several minutes. Do not shake the bottle.

Step 5

Rinse your hair in the sink with warm water. Apply the oil blend to the roots of your hair. Massage it deeply into your hair follicles. Wrap your hair in a towel and let the blend sit in your hair for 10 minutes.

Step 6

Wash the oil blend out of your hair with your favorite shampoo and conditioner.

Tips and Warnings

  • The Alternative Medicine Zone also suggests that you consume plenty of green vegetables, yogurt and sesame seeds, all which are beneficial to hair health. Rinsing your hair with sage tea in apple cider vinegar may also help to stimulate hair growth. Taking a tincture or tea made with the herbs stinging nettles, burdock or marshmallow may also improve blood circulation and stimulate hair growth. You can find most of these herbs, along with the jojoba and vitamin E oil at a natural health food store. Eating foods that contain zinc, magnesium and calcium along with plenty of essential oil fatty acids may also be helpful.
  • Sudden or unusual hair loss may be a sign of a more serious health concern. Please contact your physician if you have any questions. Even though there are many examples of natural ways to help hair growth, not enough evidence exists to prove them completely effective.
