Have you ever been told that in failing to plan, you plan to fail? When it comes to weight loss, this philosophy is key. Before grocery shopping, make a list of foods that accommodate your points range for Weight Watchers. Plan your meals and save yourself time and mental energy. Familiarize yourself with some of the basics and make life easier on yourself.

The Produce Section

Lets start with fruits and vegetables. Since they are low in calories and contain fiber, they are a great way to satisfy your hunger without using a lot of points. For only one point you can eat an apple, orange, pear or one cup of grapes. You will find that many vegetable are zero points per serving size. If you plan for 3 oz of carrots, 1 cup of broccoli, 1 cup of asparagus, 3/4 cup of green beans or 1 cup of cauliflower, you don't have to add any points. Just remember that if you have more than one serving size or combine vegetables, you will have to recalculate the points.

The Dairy Section

Time to get some staples for the upcoming week. 1 cup of skim milk, 1/4 cup mozzarella cheese, an egg and a slice of cheese are each 2 points. If you like creamer in your coffee, add one point per serving. Yogurt is a great snack or addition to a meal. Low-fat yogurts vary between two and three points, depending on the brand.

Protein Sources

Whether you are a vegetarian or a carnivore, there are many options to make sure that you are getting protein into your program. Four oz of chicken breast and 3 oz of salmon are each two points. Plan a meal with flank steak and add four points. One-quarter cup of chickpeas and 1/4 cup of black beans are one point each.

Snacks and Desserts

Definitely plan ahead and calculate points before you hit the snack and dessert aisles. Don't wait until you get home to be surprised that two cookies (three points) are higher in points than a serving of salmon. A half cup of ice cream and a serving size of tortilla chips are also three points. Snack on 20 mini pretzels and add two points to your daily plan.
