The right brain controls the creative aspects of intellect, such as conceptual thinking, writing, singing and "brainstorming." The left brain is analytical and focuses more on concrete ideas such as mathematical problems. There are exercises to help sharpen the thought processes that are shaped in the right brain.
Painting
Even if you have never painted a picture, picking up the brush and creating art is good right brain exercise. It is not by the numbers. It is a way of visualizing something, then creating it. The first few paintings might not be Rembrandt-quality, but that isn't the point. Whether you try to paint a landscape, a bowl of fruit or an abstract, the act of creating something from the nothing of the white canvas can stimulate right brain activity.
Playing Games
Playing strategy games also can help exercise the right brain because these types of games require you to see the whole board, whether it is chess or a video strategy game such as "Age of Empires" or "Rise of Nations." These computer-based games, for example, require you to build an economy while taking care of defense and using natural resources all at the same time.
Learning
Pick up a book about anything you know nothing about and start reading. For example, if you never have learned anything about aromatherapy, reading and learning about it will stimulate and exercise your right brain. While learning, you will relate what you learn with what you already know, thus conceptualizing and seeing a bigger picture.
Singing
Singing really is not logical. You cannot learn to sing by doing the math of a musical score. If you start singing about something you are trying to fix or solve, you might find ways to see the problem in a different way. Solving problems is a right-brain function, so singing about your dilemma may help.
