People have been using honey medicinally for more than 2,000 years. Honey is playing an increasing role in holistic medicine, particularly for how it can benefit the skin. Fresh milk is used in many skin products such as moisturizing lotions and soap. Goat’s milk in particular has a long history of use in skin care. Combining honey and milk for skin care can provide certain benefits.

History

Both milk and honey have a long history of use for reducing the effects of age and keeping the skin looking fresh and beautiful. The Egyptian queen, Cleopatra, is renowned for taking regular baths in goat’s milk. Honey has been an integral part of Chinese medicine since the 6th century B.C. Several religious texts, including the Bible and the Koran, also speak of milk and honey as being foods that are sustaining for both the body and the soul.

According to Organic Facts, honey is a quick source of energy and is easily converted to glucose. It also helps digest stored body fat and reduce weight. Consuming honey helps to reduce free radicals, boost the immune system and to replenish the skin with vital nutrients that keep it looking young and healthy. Milk is rich in nutrients that are beneficial to the skin and the body as a whole, including calcium, potassium, vitamins A and D, phosphorus and protein. Milk can also nourish your skin from the outside by helping ot to retain moisture.

Function of Honey

Honey should be directly applied onto your skin. According to the Skin Care resources Center, honey is a humectant, which means it will attract and hold moisture within your skin. This is not only beneficial for people with dry skin, but also those with oily skin because it will help retain the skin’s natural moisture without producing and oily film. Honey can also reduce wrinkles and help you skin to retain its elasticity. According to the Bastyr Center for Natural Health, honey is effective for healing wounds, ulcers and burns. Patients suffering from superficial burns who were treated with honey experienced a quicker reduction in pain and inflammation of the skin. The patients who were treated honey also had less scarring when the wound healed.

Function of Milk

According to The Daily Green, drinking raw milk on a regular basis can resolve s number of skin issues. If you drink milk on a regular basis and are noticing a skin rash, you may be having an allergic reaction and should seek medical advice immediately. Organic Facts, recommends combining milk and honey to get the maximum skin care benefits from both. A teaspoonful of honey in a glass of warm milk is a good way to combine the two.

Warning

Although it is not common, some people are allergic to honey. The symptoms can range from a skin irritation to a cough and flu like symptoms to anaphylaxis. People who have allergies to other foods such as gluten or nuts may be sensitive to honey. People who have allergies to certain plant pollens may also be sensitive to honey, particularly if the honey was made from bees collecting pollen from these specific plants. If you have an allergic reaction to honey, seek medical attention immediately.
