For many women (and a few men), cellulite is a real problem. Cellulite is concentrated areas of fat, which cause a rippling or cottage cheese appearance in the skin. It can occur naturally and is even hereditary for some individuals. It is important to recognize that there is no magic way to erase cellulite, although there are a number of creams and supplements that make such claims. However, following a raw-food eating method can significantly reduce the appearance of cellulite on the body.

Eat fresh fruits and vegetables, organic when possible. Cooking foods destroys many of the nutrients, and especially the enzymes in fruits and vegetables. Enzymes are essential for digestion. They also help to break down proteins and toxins in the body, and have a cleansing effect. Raw fruits and vegetables help nourish and cleanse the body at the same time. Fruits and vegetables that are high in anti-oxidants and help to combat cellulite include: pomegranates, cherries, blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, grapefruit, spinach, tomatoes, bell peppers and carrots.

Consume high-fiber foods such as beans, lentils and bean sprouts. Of course fruits and vegetables also provide fiber, but consider eating the edible skins of fruits, such as apples and pears, and vegetables, such as potatoes and yams, for additional fiber. In addition, consider supplementing with fiber drinks like Metamucil or psyllium husk powder. Make sure you take these with plenty of water.

Eat quality proteins. Although most raw foodists are vegans (they consume no animal products), some raw food advocates also include raw dairy products and eggs in their diets. It is not advisable to consume raw eggs or meats. However, the raw food method requires that 75 percent of the diet or more be raw foods. Other high-protein raw foods include nuts and seeds. Many health food stores now offer raw, unsalted nuts and seeds. In addition, the fatty acids in the naturally occurring oils help to repair skin damage.

Drink plenty of water. This is critical for flushing away excess fat. The rule of thumb says to consume half your body weight in ounces each day. For example, a 120-pound woman would need to drink at least 60 ounces of water. While that may sound like a lot, it only amounts to about three sport bottles per day. Additionally, drinking a glass of lemon water upon waking will help to stimulate digestion and detoxify the body.
