According to Health Day News, more than 18 million men in the United States suffer from erectile dysfunction, which can include premature ejaculation, loss of libido and the inability to maintain an erection. This condition often has nothing to do with age, but rather with psychological issues and diet. Treating the issue of male potency with herbal remedies not only can result in success, but also for the most part eliminates the worry over possible side effects.

Siberian Ginseng

Siberian ginseng, or eleuthero, was often used by Olympic coaches in the former Soviet Union to provide athletes with more energy and power as it helps with both the respiratory and circulatory systems. Because it affects penile erection by sending blood to the area, it is often used to enhance male potency.

Ginkgo Biloba

Ginkgo biloba has been used in Chinese medicine for centuries due to its ability to increase the flow of blood to the genitals while also nourishing the brain.

Schisandra

Schisandra helps boost the immune system while assisting with circulation. When combined with Siberian ginseng, it is a potent formula for assisting with erectile dysfunction.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha has been used for centuries in Indian, Arabian and Pakistani herbal tradition for boosting male potency. The herb's ability to repair broken passageways that impede ejaculation is its main asset in helping men regain potency and stamina.

Yohimbe

Yohimbe functions similarly to Viagra, without side effects. An alkaloid substance extracted from the bark of the yohimbe tree found in West Africa, it helps to heighten libido through sending blood to erectile tissue.

Muira Pauma

Muira pauma is a potent aphrodisiac that originates in Brazil. Working as a nerve stimulant, the herb helps to restore lost virility and enhance the sex drive. Also known as potency wood, the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine lists it as a substance that helps to strengthen the reproductive system, adrenal glands, cardiovascular function, the central nervous system and renal activity. It is also helpful in reducing thyroid stress.

Saw Palmetto

Saw palmetto has been used by Native Americans to treat genital problems as well as enhance the respiratory system and increase muscle strength. Popular in Germany, Canada and the UK, it is a common treatment for prostate and urinary tract ailments. Saw almetto berries are known for their aphrodisiac qualities.

Catuaba Bark

Catuaba bark was discovered by the Tupi Indians of Brazil, who sang songs in praise of its capacity to help with impotence problems as well as its powerful aphrodisiac qualities. Herbalists in the United States use it to increase genital function for both men and women.

Hawthorn Berry

Hawthorn berry is commonly used in Germany to help increase blood flow to the heart and brain as well as to the genitals.

Other Herbs

Wild oats and stinging nettle contain properties that increase strength and endurance, helping men prolong their erections.
