A yeast infection is caused by an overgrowth of candida, a microscopic fungus. This same infection can cause jock itch, diaper rash and oral thrush. The yeast feed on sugar in your diet and thrive in an acidic environment. Raw, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar can change the pH balance in your body, alkalizing your blood and killing the yeast bacteria. Apple cider vinegar will work best if you also make changes in your diet, limiting sugar and yeast.
Step 1
Use only raw, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar. It's best if it has the mother in it, meaning it contains active bacterial cultures. It should look cloudy in the bottle. These active cultures aid in digestion and help restore beneficial bacteria, crowding out the yeast.
Step 2
Drink 2 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar mixed with 8 oz. of water three times daily. Although the taste might be unpleasant, do not add any type of sweetener. Sugar, honey, maple syrup and other sweeteners will feed the fungus that you are trying to kill. Yeast thrives on sugars. Limit fruit, simple carbohydrates and alcohol while curing your yeast infection.
Step 3
Add 1 cup of apple cider vinegar to a warm bath for external relief of itching and inflammation. Do not douche with apple cider vinegar, as it might do more harm than good.
Tips and Warnings
- If you have frequent infections, look for the underlying cause such as antibiotic use or sugar imbalances; many diabetics suffer frequent yeast infections.
- Never apply undiluted apple cider vinegar directly to your skin -- it will burn.
