Vision Fitness Treadmill Maintenance Tips

Vision Fitness makes treadmills, elliptical trainers and fitness bikes for commercial and residential use. You can build your own Vision treadmill. Select a console and frame and only pay for the features you want and need. You can perform some basic maintenance tasks on your Vision treadmill to keep it working smoothly for many years.

Clean Your Treadmill

Vision Fitness recommends you clean your treadmill every week. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the railing, console and motor hood. Don't use any solvents as this could damage your machine. For safety reasons, turn off and unplug the unit before cleaning it. Vacuum around and under the treadmill every week. Monthly, remove the motor hood and vacuum the dust and dirt that accumulated around the motor.

Wax the Deck

Vision Fitness treadmills have a wax-lubricated phenolic deck. The deck does not require any maintenance for the first six months of use. After that, you should wax the deck every month for the best performance. Vision sells a treadmill deck waxing stick on its website. In March 2011, the stick costs $37.62 and provides 25 to 30 applications, depending on the size of your belt. Only use a waxing product that has been approved by Vision Fitness.

Running Belt

Every month, check the tension and centering of the running belt. To check the tension, walk on the treadmill at a medium speed and feel for any slipping of the belt. To check the centering, run the belt at 2.0 mph and observe it from behind. If the belt slips under your feet or shifts to one side, use an Allen wrench to adjust the rear roller bolts. Vision Fitness provides instructions for tensioning and centering the belt in the owner's manual.

Other Tasks

Every three months, check all the nuts and bolts to make sure they are tight. Check the power cord every week. Look for any cracking or wearing of the cord and replace it if needed.

Vision Fitness provides a maintenance schedule in the owner's manual. Follow the schedule and inspect your treadmill regularly. This will extend its life and save you time and money.
