Tasty, crunchy chicken wings are often fried, which boosts the fat content and makes for an unhealthy meal. By making chicken wings in the oven, you cut back on the fat and calories in the dish while still enjoying delicious wings. Choose your favorite spice rub and hot sauce to make your wings as spicy as you'd like.

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.

Rub the wings with your favorite spice rub blend, which could be as simple as just salt, cayenne pepper and garlic powder.

Place a slotted oven rack over a rimmed baking sheet and place the chicken wings on the rack. This will allow the fat to drip through the rack into the baking pan while the chicken cooks.

Slide the baking sheet into the oven and cook the wings for 15 minutes. Remove them from the oven.

Use tongs to flip the chicken wings over, then return the sheet to the oven and cook for another 15 minutes.

Use a meat thermometer to check the temperature of the wings to ensure they are cooked thoroughly. Remove the wings from the oven when the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Give your wings an extra boost of crispiness if necessary. Turn on your oven's broiler and place the baking sheet directly under the top heating element. Let the wings broil for a minute or two, checking frequently so they don't burn, until golden and crispy.

Let the wings rest at room temperature for a few minutes. Toss the wings in a large bowl with your favorite hot sauce and serve alongside celery sticks and blue cheese dressing.
