Keeping your metabolism high is one of the best ways to lose weight. If you have a high metabolism, you'll be able to break down foods quickly and keep your internal energy stores high. Eating small portions frequently is a great way to keep your metabolism high, but not everyone has the time to eat every few hours. Protein shakes help you to take in high-quality nutrition without having to stop and eat a meal, which means you can keep your metabolism high while on the go.

Step 1

Find a protein shake that you like the taste and consistency of, and that you won't mind consuming daily. Get opinions from friends and store clerks. A protein shake is only useful if you enjoy using it, so pick the one you like the best.

Step 2

Prepare and consume your protein shake according to label directions upon waking up in the morning. Metabolic disorders specialist Lisa Lynn states that having a protein shake in the morning will boost your metabolism by 25 percent. Also, making a healthy choice early in the day will help you to keep you on track throughout the day.

Step 3

Drink a protein shake at any point in the day when you feel hungry, but aren't up for a full meal. According to the website Muscle and Strength, your body has to work 30 percent harder to break down proteins than it does for fats and carbohydrates. This extra work will help to boost your metabolism, thereby helping you to lose weight faster.

Step 4

Begin an exercise routine that involves strength training, then have a protein shake after your workout. Consuming protein after a workout, at the point when your muscles are in their greatest need our nourishment, will help your muscles to grow more rapidly. This extra work done by your body will help decrease your fat levels and increase your lean mass, which will result in weight loss.
