Side Effects of the Flovent 110 Mcg Inhaler

The Flovent 110 mcg (microgram) inhaler is filled with a medication called fluticasone. It is a corticosteroid that is inhaled to help in the prevention of asthma symptoms. It is not for emergency use as a "rescue" inhaler, but rather helps to lessen the severity and frequency of attacks when used regularly as prescribed. It can also be used in the treatment of COPD, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Serious Side Effects

Common serious side effects from Flovent may include patches of white in the throat and mouth, vomiting, diarrhea, a discharge from the vagina and vaginal itching. Others include pain in the ears, a fever, swallowing problems, pain in the lower abdomen, urination pain, shortness of breath, and a discharge from or redness of the area around the eyes, including the lining, eyelid and the eye itself. Rare serious side effects may include breathing difficulties, hypertension, diabetes, blurred vision, blindness, weakness and numbness in the extremities, female facial hair, impotence, disruption of the menstrual cycle and wasting of the muscles. Others include bodily weakness, hives, growth retardation in adolescents and children, and wheezing.

Temporary Side Effects

The most common side effects from Flovent when you first start using it include, according to the Mayo Clinic, a cough, nasal congestion, general ill feeling, a runny nose, yellowish-green nasal mucus, vocal changes, sores in the nose or a headache. Less common temporary side effects include sneezing, nosebleeds, pain in the stomach, faintness or giddiness, irritation of the eyes or mouth, pain in the joints, migraines and painful menstruation. Rarer side effects include aggression, inability to stop moving, agitation, voice loss, bruising, increases in thirst, hunger or urination, and fatigue. Others include unexplained weight loss, sweating, a decrease in height, blurry vision, or pain in the legs, arms or back, among others. These side effects should disappear after you have used Flovent for a while. Talk to your doctor if they do not.

Overdose Side Effects

If you take more Flovent than your physician prescribes, you may experience associated side effects. These may include abnormal weakness, skin discoloration or darkening, abnormal tiredness, fainting and appetite loss. Call your doctor immediately if you experience these side effects.
