1. Surgical Removal
Cryptic tonsillitis occurs when the tonsils develop small pockets or pits called crypts. These crypts can trap food and form small growths called tonsilliths or tonsil stones. These tonsil stones are particle_temps of bacteria and other dead cells that often carry an unpleasant order to them as well. Even though this condition may sound serious, it generally is not. It is unpleasant and uncomfortable, and in some rare cases, dangerous, if the stones are large enough to block air flow.
Currently, the only way to cure cryptic tonsillitis is to have the tonsils removed through a tonsillectomy. This procedure, as effective as it may be, also has a very painful and uncomfortable postoperative recovery that lasts about two weeks or more.
An alternative to complete tonsil removal is having the tonsils shrunk through a procedure called
somnoplasty. Tiny needle electrodes are inserted into the tonsils and emit an energy wave, which burns away the tonsil tissues and kills cells. The tonsils then start to shrink and minimize all on their own.
Talk to your doctor about your best treatment options.
2. Gargle with Salt Water
This remedy won't necessarily cure the cryptic tonsillitis, but it can remove tonsil stones and prevent the growth of additional ones. The salt-water solution cleans out the crypts and removes any particle_temps or food matter that is lodged in there. The solution will also help to thwart the development of new tonsil stones.
Medical professionals recommend adding 1 teaspoon of salt to 8 ounces of warm water. Gargle with this solution once every hour for the best results.
3. Alternative Treatments
Even though it has not been clinically proven, there are a few remedies that get rid of tonsil stones without the use of surgery. One such product on the market is a combination therapy of AktivOxegen tablets and nasal sinus drops. The tablets are dissolved in water and used like a mouthwash. The solution should be allowed to rinse back over the tonsils for as long as possible in order to get optimal results. The nasal drops are intended to get rid of the bacteria and particle_temps that get trapped in the tonsil crypts. They are simply squeezed into each nostril a few times a day.
In addition, a treatment called TheraBreath is a popular product for eliminating the halitosis or bad breath that is a result of cryptic tonsillitis.
Since these alternative treatments have not been approved by the Federal Food and Drug Administration, talk to your doctor before taking them.
