Olive leaf comes from a small evergreen tree (olive tree) that is native to the Mediterranean. The tree yields small green or black fruits called olives. Both the fruits and the leaves of the tree offer medicinal value. The olive leaf has specific value in the treatment of conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, parasitic, fungal and bacterial infection.

Diabetes

Diabetes is one disease that olive leaf has been shown to be beneficial. According to the University of Michigan Health System, some research has shown that olive leaf extracts can help lower elevated blood sugar levels in diabetics. However, more research needs to be done on how olive leaf oil can be helpful in the treatment of diabetes. If you are interested in trying this treatment, speak with your physician so that the treatment can be monitored and to be sure that you take the correct dose.

High Blood Pressure

Olive leaf oil has been found to be effective in the treatment of high blood pressure. According to the University of Michigan Health System, some research has showed that when olive leaf is injected intravenously, it helped to decrease blood pressure by dilating arteries around the heart. You should always consult your physician before beginning this treatment. Your physician will need to help you decide on the dosage of the supplement. However, more research needs to be done, especially in the area of human trials to be sure of the exact benefits of using olive leaf to prevent high blood pressure.
