Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) is a statin drug. It works to lower LDL ( low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol by up to 52 percent (10-mg dose) and raise HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol by up to 14 percent (with 10-mg dose), notes Crestor.com. It works by impeding an enzyme located in the liver. Use of Crestor may also help to slow the development of plaque in the blood vessels. Crestor is administered orally; a typical dose is 5 to 40 mg once a day.
