While most people might think of Myrtle Beach, S.C., as a great place to visit during the summer for sand, surf and fun, the city has a lot to offer residents and visitors throughout the year---even during the winter. With its relatively mild winters, Myrtle Beach is the perfect place for any kind of activity imaginable, whether indoors or outdoors.

The Beach

It might seem a little strange to go to the beach during the winter, but there is no shortage of things to do there no matter the time of year. You can enjoy a walk with your family, friends or significant other. Even better, there are no pet restrictions during the winter months, and the beach is far less crowded. While colder days might not be the best for getting a tan, there's no reason you can't enjoy a game of beach volleyball; it can be just as fun when you're wearing a sweatshirt as when you're in a swimsuit. On warmer days, you can go for a winter swim without having to be a polar bear. You can also build sand castles, bury each other in the sand, dig for treasure, write in the sand or even fly kites.

Golf

With the mild winters, there's no reason not to put on your favorite sweater or light jacket and enjoy one of the nation's best golf destinations. There are more than 100 golf courses to choose from in the Myrtle Beach area, and many of them are rated among the nation's best by "Golf Digest." From Barefoot Resort to True Blue Plantation, you can easily find the perfect golf course for you. During the winter, you can take advantage of reduced off-season rates, enjoying the same great golf at a much lower price.

The Great Outdoors

There is plenty to do in Myrtle Beach beyond just golfing and going to the beach. Although charter fishing boats usually aren't available for hire in the winter, when most of those boats do the majority of their commercial fishing, you can still find a number of fishing piers open to the public. The winter is a great time for biking, with less traffic and more room for bicycles. Some roads in Myrtle Beach have designated bicycle lanes, and there are numerous trails to explore as well. Those not interested in biking or fishing can explore a variety of other options, including walking, playing sports and horseback riding.

Staying Indoors

Despite Myrtle Beach's mild winters, there are still some days that are just too cold for outdoor activities. Extensive shopping is available at many locations, including Broadway at the Beach, Coastal Grand Mall and Colonial Mall. When you're ready to get off your feet for a little while, check out Myrtle Beach's own 3D IMAX theater. If you're looking to soak up some culture or history, tour one of the area's museums, such as the Children's Museum of South Carolina, the Burroughs & Chapin Art Museum, the Howard Gallery or the South Carolina Hall of Fame.

Entertainment and Nightlife

Myrtle Beach offers plenty for those seeking everything from family entertainment to a night of clubbing on the town. Great entertainment options include the Carolina Opry, which hosts its main show as well as retro Good Vibrations shows and even laser light shows. There is a location of the Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, the House of Blues and Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede Dinner & Show. Those looking to experience Myrtle Beach nightlife need look no further than the area's many clubs, including Revolutions Dance Club, Club Kryptonite, Malibu Surf Bar, Froggy Bottomz and more. No matter what you are interested in, there is no shortage of things to do during the winter in Myrtle Beach.
