Preparation H is an over-the-counter medication to treat hemorrhoids, however many people have used the ointment to treat baggy, puffy eyes. Treating eyes with Preparation H will constrict blood vessels in the skin, as well as decrease fluid in the area. Though the off-label use is not recommended by Wyeth, the maker of Preparation H, or those in the medical community, both women and men have used the ointment on occasion to get rid of baggy eyes. No clinical study has been done on the effectiveness or potential side effects using the ointment on the under eye area.
Step 1
Do an allergy test. Apply a small amount of ointment to the under eye area. Wait 24 hours and observe if an allergic reaction has developed. Look for signs of a rash or redness.
Step 2
Wash hands. Apply a minimal amount of ointment to the skin the under eye using fingertips. Massage into your skin. Avoid getting ointment into the eye area.
Step 3
Cleanse your hands after applying the ointment. If stinging or burning develops remove cream by using soap, water and a cotton ball.
