The acidic taste of lemon juice may leave the impression that it dissolves calories, but the truth is that no food contains magical weight-loss properties. That said, lemon juice is very low in calories, and it can make a healthful addition to your breakfast when you're trying to slim down.

Weight Loss and Lemon Juice

You lose weight by consuming fewer calories than you burn, prompting your body to burn stored fat for energy. Lemon juice doesn't burn fat or speed up your metabolism, so it doesn't increase weight loss. At just 7 calories per ounce, however, lemon juice fits nicely into a reduced-calorie diet. Drinking water with lemon instead of orange juice in the morning can help you reach your weight-loss goals, as orange juice contains a hefty 122 calories per cup. Using lemon instead of sugar in your tea is also a smart move, as this will cut empty calories from your breakfast meal.
