Curling iron burns are one of the prices many women have paid for beauty. These burns tend to happen on the very sensitive skin of the face or neck, making them unsightly as well as painful. While you may be tempted to put makeup over the burn to disguise it, that can actually make it worse by spreading bacteria and oils into a fresh wound. The key to minimizing a burn is to treat it right away.
Step 1
Wash the burn gently with antibacterial soap and cold water. Use an unscented soap if you have one. A gentle, moisturizing facial cleanser works well too. Splash water onto the burn or allow the water to run over it for several minutes.
Step 2
Wrap a handful of ice in a clean, dry washcloth and apply it to the burn. Leave it on for at least 15 minutes, or up to one hour if possible.
Step 3
Spread a thin layer of honey over the burn. Not only is it soothing, it has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can help speed healing, according to research reported in the New York Times.
Step 4
Apply a sterile, non-stick bandage over the burn to protect it from the elements. Gauze works well if you have it.
Step 5
Take ibuprofen to help the swelling go down and relieve pain. You can also use an anti-inflammatory such as naproxen if you don't have ibuprofen.
