How to Get Rid of Acne & Red Cheeks and Nose

Acne is bad enough, but combine it with redness and irritation and your face can become a disaster zone. Overuse of pimple-fighting products and harsh cleansers can wreak havoc on your complexion, strip it of essential oils and cause flaking and excessive dryness. It can also make you break out more and make your red nose and cheeks even more irritated. Control acne and redness gently but effectively by using milder products once or twice a day. This will help banish blemishes and soothe your stressed-out skin.

Step 1

Wash your face in the morning with a gentle, creamy cleanser that does not contain soap or other ingredients that will dry out your skin. Use lukewarm water to wet your face, smooth the product over your skin and then wash it off.

Step 2

Apply a skin-soothing moisturizer with SPF 15 or higher all over your face. Look for products with hydrating ingredients like shea butter, which will help lessen redness and smooth the texture of your complexion. Reapply this throughout the day if you are going to be spending time outdoors, since sun exposure can make facial redness worse.

Step 3

Let the moisturizer dry, and then smooth a green-tinted powder or primer onto your cheeks and nose. According to Ross Burton, a New York City makeup artist, this product will help neutralize redness. Blend it in with a makeup sponge or brush.

Step 4

Dab a skin-toned mineral makeup on top of the areas where you used the green-tinted product. This will help you achieve a more even-looking complexion. Use a light touch when blending it in to avoid rubbing off the green makeup underneath.

Step 5

Wash your face at night with a foaming, salicylic acid cleanser to unclog pores, get rid of oil and makeup, and fight the bacteria that can cause zits. Massage the product onto your wet skin for a few minutes, allowing the active ingredients to absorb, and then rinse thoroughly and pat dry.

Step 6

Apply a lotion with 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide before bed. “Allure” magazine notes that this will help zap current pimples and prevent future ones from popping up. Smooth it over your entire face, and put an extra dab directly on top of your blemishes.
