Cellulite is a term used to describe lumpy deposits of body fat just below the surface of the skin creating a dimpled cottage cheese appearance. You will typically find cellulite in your stomach, thighs and buttocks. According to MayoClinic.com, cellulite is more commonly found in women. In fact, 80 percent of woman have some degree of cellulite. Although it may not be possible to completely eliminate cellulite, you can significantly diminish its appearance by making certain lifestyle changes.
Step 1
Start exercising.Combine cardiovascular exercise and strength training three times a week. Cardiovascular exercises flush out toxins and increase blood circulation; as blood circulates more freely, cellulite is eliminated and replaced with muscle. Walking, jogging or using an elliptical trainer are all affective ways to combat cellulite. Perform strength training exercises such as lounges, leg curls and squats. These exercises develop muscle in areas where cellulite is commonly found, such as in the thigh and buttock region.
Step 2
Eat a low-fat, low-calorie diet. Eat as many fresh fruits and vegetables as possible. Fruits in the citrus family contain antioxidants that will help your body flush out toxins. Eat healthy fatty acids such as salmon, walnuts, almonds and olive oil. Avoid foods that are high in saturated fat, including fried foods, high-fat salad dressings and cheese. Drinks such as alcohol, coffee and sodas should be replaced with plenty of water.
Step 3
Reduce salt your salt intake. Lessening the amount of salt you consume will reduce the appearance of cellulite. Salt retains water in your body. When your salt consumption is high your body retains excess fluids, causing your cellulite to be more noticeable. Foods that are known to contain high amounts of sodium are processed and packaged such as canned soups and chips. The American Heart Association recommends you consume less than 1,500 mg of sodium daily.
