How to Get Rid of Baby Fat on Your Face

Fat is a substance that is necessary to the body, but only in moderate amounts. It acts as an insulator, provides the body with energy and helps cushion the organs. When fat becomes excessive and it appears in unwanted areas like the face, it can become a nuisance and also cause a person to be self conscious. Although there is no such thing as spot reduction, you can still incorporate some facial exercises to help tone up the muscles.

Step 1

Cut back on the junk food. In order to lose baby fat in your face, you are going to have to lose fat all over your body at the same time. But unless you clean up your diet, you are not going to lose fat at any location. Eliminate foods that are high in fat, sugar and sodium. Examples include cakes, cookies, fast food, deep fried foods, high-fat dairy products, frozen dinners, commercial baked goods and chips. Eat foods that are nutrient dense instead like fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, whole grains, lean meats and low-fat dairy products.

Step 2

Reduce your daily caloric intake. To successfully lose weight in your face and body, you need to create a caloric deficit where you are burning more calories than you are consuming.

Step 3

Go for a run. Aerobic exercise, or "cardio," is efficient at burning calories and causing weight loss. This is the case with your arms, legs, back, stomach, face and every other location on your body. Perform cardio 30 to 45 minutes four to five days a week. Examples of things you can do include running, biking, swimming, tennis, basketball, elliptical training, stair stepping and jumping rope.

Step 4

Smile really wide. You can do this exercise from a seated, standing or lying position. Start with your lips closed. While keeping them closed, make as big a smile as you can and turn the corners of your lips upward. Act as if you want to touch your lips to your ears when you do this. Hold for 5 to 10 seconds, release and repeat 10 to 12 times.

Step 5

Push air into your cheeks. This exercise can be done from any position. Close your lips tightly and forcefully push air into your bottom lip. Hold for 5 to 10 seconds, then push air into your top lip, right cheek and left cheek all the same way for the same amount of time. Once you've gone all the way around, take one last big breath and force air into your whole mouth so your lips and cheeks are puffed out. Hold for 5 to 10 seconds and release. Take a few breaths to relax and do 5 to 6 reps total .

Step 6

Suck your cheeks in. Close your lips and open your jaws to start out. Now suck your cheeks in towards each other as hard as you can. Hold for 5 to 10 seconds and release. Repeat 10 to 12 times. When you do this exercise, be sure not to put too much pressure downward on your teeth to protect the insides of your cheeks.

Step 7

Perform cheek pulldowns. Close your mouth and place your fingers on your cheeks. Pull them down towards the ground as you simultaneously try to smile. Fight the resistance of your cheeks being puled down and hold for 5 to 10 seconds. Release, take a few breaths and repeat again 10 to 12 times.
