You don't need to travel to France to enjoy the taste of ham and cheese between two slices of a baguette. Also known as French bread, baguettes are available at many supermarkets. Typically, baguettes are baked in long, thin loaves, and slicing a baguette lengthwise gives you enough surface on your slices to include some ham, cheese and condiments.

A High-Calorie Sandwich

The calories in a baguette depend on the size of your slices. Two medium-sized slices, which each measure 4-by-2 1/2-by-1 3/4 inches, have 370 calories. Four 1-ounce slices of ham that have 11 percent fat add an additional 183 calories to the sandwich. Two 1-ounce slices of Swiss cheese contain 213 calories. Half a tablespoon of unsalted butter has 51 calories, while 1 1/2 teaspoons of prepared mustard has five calories. Expect your ham and cheese baguette to have about 822 calories.
