The Thrive diet is a vegan plan that does not focus on calorie count. Instead, Thrive is about percentages. Thrive is a teaching system for a vegetarian lifestyle that explains how certain foods affect your overall health. The number of calories is not important as long as you follow the percentages to balance your diet and you consume enough calories to maintain your energy.
History
Thrive is a concept from triathlete Brendan Brazier. After suffering an accident in 2003, Brazier wrote a book, "Thrive: The Vegan Nutrition Guide to Optimal Performance in Sports and Life," to outline a diet plan to help regain his health and return to professional athletics.
Concept
The Thrive diet is completely plant-based. This means the plan excludes meat and dairy products. This is a seven- to 12-week system that teaches you how to start and maintain a vegan lifestyle. Brazier's plan requires eating a balance of food for energy to improve your fitness level.
Diet
The plan does not specify calories, but it gives you a ratio of energy-dense foods to eat instead. According to a review on the website Loss Weight Diet, the Thrive program recommends 45 percent fibrous vegetables; 20 percent legumes, seeds and pseudo grains; 20 percent fruit; 10 percent nuts, avocados and cold-pressed oils; and 5 percent whole grains and starchy vegetables each day. You are to eat the number of calories you need to maintain your energy levels.
