Nutrisystem is a weight-loss system that provides users with a meal plan and a community to help with weight loss. Although some of the food items from Nutrisystem do not have gluten, the plan itself is not gluten-free and is not recommended for anyone who needs to follow a gluten-free diet.

Gluten-Free Diets

Gluten is a protein that is found in several grains, such as barley, wheat and rye. Some conditions, such as celiac disease, can be treated by following a diet that is devoid of gluten. People with celiac disease have an inflammatory reaction in their digestive tract when they eat gluten, which can cause abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea, among other symptoms. A gluten-free diet entails avoiding all foods made with gluten-containing grains.

Nutrisystem and Gluten

The Nutrisystem program entails following a diet based on prepackaged foods purchased from the company. Many of the Nutrisystem products, including the majority of its breakfast items, are made with wheat, which means that they contain gluten. As a result, the Nutrisystem website notes that this plan should not be followed by people who need to follow a gluten-free diet.
