Sweating, also known as perspiration, is a natural way that your body copes with excessive heat, reports the University of Maryland Medical Center. For cosmetic reasons, you may wish to limit your body's perspiration to avoid awkward or unsightly wet spots on your clothes. Several over-the-counter deodorants include antiperspirant active ingredients to help curb excess sweating.
Dove Radiant Silk Aerosol Antiperspirant
After testing over four dozen antiperspirant deodorants, the editors of "Real Simple" magazine named Dove's aerosol product the best spray antiperspirant. They loved how it was so convenient to apply and effectively blocked "both sweat and odor." It dries to a smooth and silky finish, hence its name. Unlike many aerosol deodorants, "Real Simple" notes that Dove's antiperspirant doesn't have an overpowering fragrance.
Secret Clinical Strength Advanced Solid Antiperspirant/Deodorant Waterproof
Secret provides extra-strong defense against sweating and odor for those who want a waterproof option. It does so well that "Allure" magazine ranked it as the best deodorant in its 2009 Best of Beauty awards. It combines several potent ingredients, including aluminum and cyclopentasiloxane, and bills itself as being as effective as prescription-strength antiperspirants.
Mitchum for Women Dry Roll-On
Some people prefer roll-on deodorants to sticks, as roll-ons may be more comfortable to apply, and may also go on more smoothly and evenly. For a roll-on antiperspirant deodorant, "Real Simple" magazine says Mitchum's is the best. They liked its long-lasting odor protection thanks to its built-in antibacterial agents, adding that it guards against sweat and smells all day.
Certain Dri
"Elle" magazine recommends the entire line of Certain Dri, saying it's more effective than typical drugstore brands. The product line includes stick and roll-on antiperspirants that provide long-lasting, multi-day odor and sweat blocking. The company also provides antiperspirant deodorants designed to combat sweating and bad smells on your feet.
