Asking what company makes the best running shoes is all relative, but certain shoe manufacturers do separate themselves from the competition with shoes that introduce advanced comfort and traction. Some of the most popular and consistent-selling shoes include Brooks, Asics and New Balance. All three brands integrate the newest in running shoe technology.
Brooks
Brooks is known to make some of the best running shoes in the industry. The latest addition to its fleet of exceptional shoes is the Glycerin 8. It is supposed to increase endurance through the Brooks DNA technology, which creates a first-of-its-kind cushioned and customized running experience.
Brooks' Launch shoe won the "Best Debut" award from Runner's World Winter 2010 Shoe Guide. The shoe's console is extremely flexible, affording smooth stride transitions. The Launch only weighs 9.3 ounces and is optimal for tempo runs and races.
Asics
One of the most prominent shoe manufacturers, Asics continuously raises the bar for running shoes and has been recognized for its innovations in shoe designing. Runner's World, for instance, named Asics' GEL-Kayano 14 as its Editor's Choice in 2008.
The GEL-Kinsei 3 is the newest in a line of form-fitting and performance shoe that provides ultimate comfort and cushioning. The shoe adapts to the foot, giving the freedom to perform its natural movements. Its heel strength was the firmest in a test for high-performance shoes conducted by Runner's World.
Asics' GEL-Trail Sensor 4 is designed for smooth trail runs. The shoe has several traction features, such as an Asics Rock Protection Plate, an uphill/downhill outsole and the Trail Sensor Heel technology.
New Balance
New Balance has long been known for producing some of the top running shoes for runners of all skill levels. Trail Runner magazine recently named the New Balance 100 as its Editor's Choice for lightweight trail running shoes, and Shape magazine selected the MT/WT910 as "Best for Rugged Terrain" in its Fall 2009 shoe review.
Another popular New Balance shoe is the MR1012. It is a favorite among distance runners. The shoe provides motion control with a snug, comfortable fit for the foot. New Balance's Stabilicore technology and extended webbing are ideal for overpronators.
The lightweight MR662 is a good fit for beginners, as well as experienced runners, with neutral gaits. The classic performance-designed training shoe weighs in at just 10.5 ounces.
