GNC produces and markets Mega Men multivitamins for the male market. The product contains most of the same vitamins and minerals you will find in other multivitamins, such as vitamins A through E and K, as well as substantial amounts of the B vitamins. For example, Mega Men multivitamins contain 2,500 percent of the recommended daily dose of vitamin B-6 and 2,941 percent of the RDA of vitamin B-2. These multivitamins also contain standard minerals, such as zinc, calcium, magnesium and chromium, as well as other substances such as grape skin powder, pomegranate fruit powder and orange peel powder. Many of the ingredients in these vitamins can produce side effects. Consult a doctor before starting any dietary supplement.
Arrhythmia
You may develop one of the more serious side effects of some of the ingredients in GNC Mega Men vitamins that affect your heart. Substances contained within these multivitamin pills, such as vitamin D and green tea, may make your heart take on an irregular beat. If your heart begins to beat irregularly, you need medical attention immediately. Changes in the heart rate can cause serious health problems, such as heart attacks, and can ultimately result in death. The overabundance of vitamin D contained within Mega Men multivitamins -- 400 percent of the RDA -- may increase the chances of an arrhythmia developing.
Diplopia
Diplopia, or double vision, may occur when you take GNC Mega Men vitamins because of the vitamin A contained within it. Vitamin A can produce diplopia as a serious side effect. Double vision means that you cannot focus your eyes to see one object, but see two of the same object overlapping each other. Seek immediate medical aid if you start seeing double when taking these vitamins.
Kidney Stones
Cranberry, a substance contained in the GNC Mega Men multivitamins, can increase your risk of developing kidney stones. These small hard substances can produce serious pain when your body tries to rid itself of them through your bladder and urethra. You should consult your physician before using this vitamin if you already are susceptible to kidney stones.
Pain
Several substances in Mega Men multivitamins may cause you to feel pain. The primary culprit, however, may be ascorbic acid or vitamin C. These multivitamins contain 500 percent of the RDA, so you absorb extra amounts of the vitamin when using this supplement. Pain may occur in your back or in either of your sides because of the vitamin C. It also may occur as headaches. Back or side pain needs immediate medical help. Headaches should recede and end on their own.
