Shrimp is a versatile ingredient available all year long. It lends itself to several different preparation methods and works well as an appetizer, side dish or addition to salads, soups or stews. Or slide shrimp onto a skewer with complimentary ingredients to make shish kabobs, which are portable and convenient for your guests to eat.
Step 1
Soak frozen shrimp in a bowl of cold water for several minutes until thawed.
Step 2
Place wooden skewers into a dish or bowl of water to soak for 30 minutes, to prevent burning them when you cook the shish kabobs.
Step 3
Devein your shrimp by cutting along the blue line with a sharp knife and removing the "vein" with your fingers. Pull off the shells, or leave them on if you prefer.
Step 4
Preheat your grill to medium high.
Step 5
Slide the shrimp onto the skewers, so the skewer goes in near the tail, then out at the top. Fill the entire skewer with shrimp, or alternate the shrimp with pieces of zucchini, red pepper or red onion.
Step 6
Place the shish kabobs on your grill and cook for roughly 4 minutes per side, until the shrimp are pink and cooked through.
Tips and Warnings
- Create a marinade with olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice, fresh herbs and white wine to add flavor to your shrimp. Soak them for at least 10 minutes prior to cooking. Use metal skewers if you don't want to soak wooden ones.
