Ginger is a thick, beige, knotted root used for a variety of treatments including indigestion, nausea and inflammation. It is highly nutritious and contains high amounts of iron and calcium. Ginger stimulates digestion by speeding up the movement from the stomach to the small intestines.

Digestion

Gingerols, the active component of ginger that provides the hot and spicy flavor, helps to stimulate bile, a digestive fluid released by the liver to help break down fats into fatty acids. Zingiberene, the essential oil from ginger, combined with gingerols help to protect the lining of the stomach during digestion. Additionally, zingibere helps to reduce flatulence caused by digestion.
