Whether she’s admitting to the universe that she got liposuction on her armpits, opening up about her fertility struggles and postpartum depression or sharing photos of her cellulite, it’s clear Chrissy Teigen has no qualms about keeping it real.

In addition to sharing TMI about her sex life with John Legend in a recent interview with Marie Claire, the 31-year-old supermodel offers her totally un-supermodel-like motivation for working out — and it has to do with her mental health.

Teigen was diagnosed with postpartum depression and anxiety after the birth of her daughter, Luna, in April of 2016 and was prescribed antidepressants. But she admits she is still struggling mentally. “Every step I take feels a little shaky,” she says. “It’s such a weird feeling that you wouldn’t know unless you have really bad anxiety. You feel like everyone is looking at you.”

But Teigen has found one method that seems to help manage her depression: working out. “I know I should exercise for mental reasons,” she says, mentioning her go-to trainer Simone De La Rue, whose clients have included Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and Anne Hathaway. “I always feel great after I see her.”

If you aren’t convinced, let science confirm Teigen’s statement. A review published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine analyzed more than 26 years of research on the relationship between depression and exercise, finding 25 studies that show minimal, regular exercise can ward off the big D. Moreover, feel-good endorphins are stimulated through exercise, helping to reduce stress — hence the reason so many people want to “sweat out” a brutal day at the office.

Unfortunately, Teigen spends most of her time on the West Coast and is forced to drive — and park — at her trainer’s studio. For anyone who has ever spent time in Los Angeles, finding a spot for your car is on par with sinking a hole in one on a PGA course and can possibly induce more stress than a hardcore workout sesh can burn. “In L.A., there’s never any f**king parking,” she complains. “So for someone who doesn’t already love working out, nothing’s selling you on it.”

Maybe try an Uber next time, Chrissy.
