How We Chose
Each toaster oven on our list is based on personal experience. We consulted reviews and talked to a few registered dietitians and a food blogger about what makes a good toaster oven, and which ones are really worth the cash.
If you have a big family, are looking to make quicker meals or are just looking for an upgrade, we chose the best toaster oven based on the following criteria:
- Brand/material
- Cooking functions
- Ease to use and clean
- Unique features
1. Best Overall: Breville Smart Oven Pro
I can personally say this is one of the best cooking appliances I've ever purchased. It came long before the craze of toaster oven/air-fryer combos, but has stood the test of time and still works just as well as it did when I first bought it.
Reviewers seem to agree: Breville is a reliable brand for toaster ovens that are built to last. Plus, they're functional and convenient.
Breville's Smart Toaster Oven has 10 cooking functions and settings: toast, bagel, bake, roast, broil, pizza, cookies, reheat, warm and slow cook. The convection fan helps to cook your food faster, which saves even more time. Not to mention, it'll help you achieve that perfectly browned roast.
This oven is perfect for holidays when we have tons of family over and need to cook a bunch of different dishes — and keep them warm! It's big enough to toast 6 slices of bread, roast a whole chicken and cook a 13-inch pizza (it even comes with a pizza pan!).
The rack slides right out of this toaster oven and it's also got a crumb catching tray for easy cleaning. This product

2. Best Small: Panasonic Toaster Oven FlashXpress
The Panasonic toaster oven is a compact, simple appliance that uses double infrared heat to cook your food faster. It offers six cooking functions, including one for frozen foods, quick reheating and toasting with five different shade settings to choose from.
Registered Dietitian, author and creator of Real Mom Nutrition, Sally Kuzemchak, RD, loves feeding her family using meals made in her Panasonic Toaster Oven.
"We've had two of these toaster ovens over the years, and I'd buy it again," Kuzemchak says. "We use it daily. It has a lot of different settings and reheats leftovers like pizza so much bettefr than a microwave. It comes out crisp as it would in the oven in a fraction of the time.
The small 9-inch baking tray is perfect for making small portions, so if you're not feeding many mouths, this one may be ideal. "It's great for a small batch of frozen French fries or a few slices of garlic toast," Kuzemchak says.
"I've had inexpensive toaster ovens that break within a year. This one costs more, but the quality is worth it."
Buy it: Amazon; Price: $157.68
3. Best Budget-Friendly: Hamilton Beach 2-in-1 Toaster Oven
The Hamilton Beach Countertop Toaster Oven comes highly recommended by Amy Gorin, RDN, an inclusive plant-based dietitian and owner of Plant Based with Amy. This toaster oven is a budget-friendly option that is literally half toaster and half oven.
You'll find two long slots on top of the oven where you can drop in a couple of slices of bread for a quick toast. Along with its separate toasting feature, there are options to bake and broil for up to 60 minutes. You can adjust the rack to two positions, and it fits a 9-inch pizza on it!
"I really like this toaster oven because it has everything you want in a toaster oven: a 60-minute timer, automatic shut-off, and it's easy to clean," Gorin says. "I'll often make toasted open-faced sandwiches or roasted chickpeas in the oven. It makes it easy to make a quick, healthy meal!"
One of her favorite healthy snacks to make in her Hamilton oven is roasted chickpeas because they cook quickly and are a great source of protein and fiber.
4. Best Air-Fryer Combo: Cuisinart Digital Toaster Oven and Air Fryer
Cuisinart's Air Fryer Toaster Oven is unique in a few ways. Not only can you bake, toast, broil and air fry foods, but this oven features dual cooking, low-temperature cooking, dehydrating and even proofing (to raise dough in a shorter amount of time).
Cuisinart's option offers temperatures as low as 80 degrees Fahrenheit and up to 450 F, which is perfect for roasting vegetables and other foods.
Reviewers say the air fryer is extremely easy to use and allows you to cook just about anything without the grease and fat, including french fries, chicken and vegetables, and it can hold up to three pounds of food.
This large-capacity toaster oven is suitable for big households or people who like to cook bigger batches or portions. It can toast up to six bagel halves, roast a 4-pound chicken and bake a 12-inch pizza.
Buy it: Williams Sonoma; Price: $299.95
5. Best Smart: Cosori Air Fryer Toaster Oven
We had to put this Cosori Toaster Oven on our list because not only does it have 12 cooking functions (including air-frying), but it's a smart device, which means you can control it from an app on your phone.
That's right, now you can cook your meals with just the touch of a button. The "Vesync" app can also connect to both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for easier, hands-free control.
Recipe developer and creator of The Novice Chef, Jessica Segarra, uses her Cosori Toaster Oven for a variety of healthy meals and recipes.
"I use mine for heating up leftovers and making a quick dinner for the kids when I am in a rush," she says. "We recently replaced our original toaster oven (a wedding gift from 2008!) with a new Cosori Toaster Oven that also has an air fryer setting."
When it comes to crafting nutritious snacks and meals for her family, Segarra says this was the upgrade they needed. "It saves leftovers, like old soggy fries that your kids didn't want at the restaurant. Just toss them in and turn on the air-fryer and they are crispy and like new again!" she says.
"We also love cooking veggies in it, like these Air-Fryer Green Beans!"
6. Best Gourmet: Wolf Gourmet Countertop Toaster Oven
Wolf's Gourmet Countertop Toaster Oven is simple to use, but it sets a high standard as far as kitchen appliances go. Convection technology circulates the hot air to cook your food fast and evenly for the perfect roasts and casseroles every time.
This appliance offers seven features: bagel, proof, roast, bake, broil, toast and warm. Unlike other toaster ovens on our list, this one comes with an integrated temperature probe, letting you cook meat to your preferred internal temperature without having to open the door and check it yourself.
It also comes with two cooking racks, giving you extra room to prepare multiple recipes at once.
Reviewers love the Wolf Gourmet Countertop Toaster Oven because you can simply toast bread, bagels and muffins in it, or choose to craft entire dinners with the baking, roasting and broiling functions. Some users report that they've even baked cakes in it!
This toaster oven is on the larger side: You can fit a 9- x 13-inch baking dish or a 5.5-pound chicken inside it.
Buy it: Bloomingdales ($749.95); Crate and Barrel ($749.95)
7. Best Large: Oster 8-in-1 Toaster Oven
If your household size is large, you'll need a large toaster oven to meet your needs so you can craft recipes in less time. Reviewers attest that Oster's 8-in-1 Toaster Oven is tried and true, and some report having bought it based on recommendations from friends and family members.
Reviewers say this toaster oven is big enough for feeding many mouths: Open up the stainless steel french doors and you can fit two 16-inch pizzas in simultaneously!
People also love the sleek look and durability — if you're looking for an appliance that'll last for years, this is it.
This toaster oven offers the luxury of features like dehydration and turbo convection baking. Both doors open with a single pull so you can easily insert and remove your food and the dual rack setup makes it easy to cook multiple dishes and recipes at once.
What to Look for in a Toaster Oven
When you're shopping for the best toaster oven for your household, here's what you should consider first:
Cooking Functions
A basic toaster oven will typically do just that: Toast, bake, roast and often even broil. Depending on what you like to cook, a simple countertop toaster oven will help you easily craft your favorite meals.
If you already have an air-fryer, you may not need a toaster oven with this added function. On the other hand, replacing an old air fryer with a toaster oven that does it all could be worth it!
Your Household Size
The number of people in your household is an important factor in buying any appliance. A toaster oven would be useless if you can't make a big enough portion to feed everyone in your home.
Buying a toaster oven should make your life easier, so ensure you find an appropriately-sized appliance to meet your needs. This brings us to our next consideration...
Your Space
Before you buy, you will also need to determine how much space you have to fit a toaster oven in your kitchen. Some of the models on our list are quite large, while others are smaller.
Take note of the measurements for the toaster oven model before you hit the purchase button and decide whether you'll keep it on the countertop or you have room to store it for easy access.
Brand and Quality
While you might spend a little more money on a quality toaster oven, one that's taken care of can easily last you ten years or so, so it's worth the upfront cost.
Trusted kitchen appliance and toaster oven brands include Cuisinart, Breville and Hamilton Beach Choose a toaster oven that's made from stainless steel, as it's less likely to become damaged over time.
