Since its opening in Seattle in 1971, Starbucks has served up millions of coffee drinks in a wide variety of flavors.

Often, these drinks contain high calorie and sugar counts where you may not expect it. In fact, some drinks from Starbucks contain calorie contents equivalent to the recommended amount for an entire meal, and sugar content beyond the recommended amount for an entire day.

The bulk of Starbucks' plain brewed grande (16-ounce cup) coffees contain 5 calories and about 260 to 360 milligrams of caffeine, per the company's website. These drinks generally do not contain any other nutrients besides a negligible amount of sodium that is less than one percent of the Daily Value (DV).

The brewed coffees served with milk contain more calories and the amount depends on the type of milk you choose for your drink. These drinks also contain a higher amount of sugar (from lactose) than plain brewed coffees and provide some calcium and protein.

Starbucks Espresso Drinks Nutrition

Some of the popular espresso drinks at Starbucks include the Caffe Americano, Caffe Latte, Cappuccino, Caramel Macchiato and Espresso. Most of these drinks can be made with a choice of 2 percent milk, whole milk, soy milk or nonfat milk.

A grande Cafe Americano contains 15 calories, no fat, cholesterol, fiber or sugar. It has 225 milligrams of caffeine.

A grande Cappuccino made with 2 percent milk contains 140 calories, 5 grams of fat (3 grams of saturated fat), 12 grams of natural sugar from milk, 9 grams of protein and 150 milligrams of caffeine.

A grande Caramel Macchiato is made with steamed milk and vanilla-flavored syrup as well as espresso and caramel sauce. The grande made with 2 percent milk contains 250 calories, 7 grams of fat (4.5 grams of saturated fat), 33 grams of sugar, 10 grams of protein and 150 milligrams of caffeine.

A grande White Hot Chocolate with 2 percent milk and whipped cream contains 440 calories, 19 grams of fat (12 grams of saturated fat, 0.5 grams of trans fat), 55 grams of sugar, 15 grams of protein and 0 milligrams of caffeine.
