If you've ever eaten in a diner, you've probably seen a club sandwich on the menu. But, you don't need to eat out to enjoy it. All you need is three slices of bread, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise for your at-home version of this diner staple. Omit the fries or onion rings to reduce the overall calories of your meal.

A High-Calorie Sandwich

A single slice of commercially baked white bread has 74 calories, notes the U.S. Department of Agriculture. That equals 222 calories for three slices of bread. One slice of prepackaged turkey contains 15 calories, and a half-ounce serving of roasted turkey has 23 calories. A single slice of pork bacon has 54 calories, a small iceberg lettuce leaf has one calorie and a thick slice of raw tomato has 5 calories. A 1.5-tablespoon serving of light mayo has 54 calories. If your club sandwich is built with three slices of bread, 2 ounces of roasted turkey, four slices of bacon, two small iceberg lettuce leaves, two thick slices of tomato and 1.5 tablespoons of mayo, the sandwich contains 596 calories.
