Cheesecake Factory is a restaurant chain that offers a variety of salads, sandwiches, burgers, pastas and desserts. The restaurant offers over 200 menu items made fresh in the restaurant kitchens every day. Portions are quite large and the desserts are popular. A glance at the nutrition information of some of their signature dishes reveals that "made from scratch" food is not necessarily healthy. Many menu items are high in calories, saturated fat and sodium.

Appetizers

Cheesecake Factory offers an extensive appetizer menu. Most of the options range from 500 to 1,500 calories per serving and contain up to 62 g of saturated fat. The Factory Nachos with Spicy Chicken weighs in at 1,930 calories, 62 g of saturated fat and 2,780 mg of sodium per serving. The Thai Lettuce Wraps contain 1,030 calories per serving as well as 6 g of saturated fat and 2,350 mg of sodium. Your best option for an appetizer is the Ahi Carpaccio that has only 260 calories, 2 g of saturated fat and 1,220 mg of sodium in each serving.

Sandwiches and Burgers

Cheesecake Factory offers a wide variety of sandwiches as well as several signature burgers. Many of your choices are high in calories, fat and sodium. The Grilled Shrimp and Bacon Club is the worst offender, with 1,640 calories, 20 g of saturated fat and 2,690 mg of sodium. The Chicken Parmesan Sandwich is not much better with 1,570 calories, 33 g of saturated fat and 2,940 mg of sodium. The Ranch House Burger weighs in at 1,890 calories with 38 g of saturated fat and 2,830 mg of sodium. The Tons of Fun Burger contains 1,400 calories, 35 g of saturated fat and 2,030 mg of sodium. Your best choice is the One Half Turkey Sandwich with only 470 calories, 6 g of saturated fat and 860 mg of sodium.

Pasta

Several pasta options are offered on the Cheesecake Factory menu. All except one of the choices is over 1,000 calories with well over 10 g of saturated fat per serving. The Bistro Shrimp Pasta contains 2,290 calories, 73 g of saturated fat and 820 mg of sodium in each serving. The Pasta Carbonara has 2,130 calories, 81 g of saturated fat and 1,250 mg of sodium. If you want pasta, your best bet would be the Shrimp with Angel Hair Pasta because it is the lowest calorie and fat option with 850 calories and 2 g of saturated fat.

Desserts

Cheesecake Factory offers several popular dessert options, including over 150 flavors of cheesecake. Most of the dessert options are quite large and very high in calories and saturated fat, report Michael F. Jacobson and Jayne Hurley, authors of "Restaurant Confidential." The Carrot Cake contains 1,560 calories and 23 g of saturated fat per slice and the Brownie Sundae Cheesecake has 1,270 calories and 43 g of saturated fat per slice. The Chocolate Truffle Tower Cake is the worst offender with 1,680 calories and 49 g of saturated fat.

Considerations

Browse the salad menu to find an entree with fewer calories and grams of fat. The Herb Crusted Salmon salad has only 560 calories and 5 g of saturated fat. The Seared Tuna Tataki Salad weighs in at only 440 calories and 3 g of saturated fat. You may also consider sharing an entree with your dining companions to help reduce calorie and saturated fat consumption.
