If you live an active lifestyle it can sometimes be overwhelming trying to figure out what to do with your Friday nights. Of course every town has restaurants, bars and movie theaters you could spend time at, but Houston also has some activity-oriented things you can do with your Friday night. Whether you like sports, thrilling amusement rides, rock climbing or jumping out of airplanes, kick off the weekend right in the town known as Space City.
For the sports minded, Friday night in Houston usually consists of attending one of the dozens of college, semi-pro and professional games occurring year-round. The Astros, Texans and Rockets are all professional teams in the Houston area. It doesn't matter what your budget is, you can find a sporting event in Houston to suit your needs.
The Downtown Aquarium is open until 11 p.m. on Friday nights. That gives you plenty of time to enjoy a date with your loved one or a late night with the whole family. The aquarium has over 500,000 gallons of water and 200 species of aquatic life. You can explore the Louisiana swamp exhibit, see living coral displays and get hands-on with stingrays in the touch tank.
For thrill rides, Kemah Boardwalk is the place to go. Located 30 minutes south of downtown Houston, this amusement area is packed full of restaurants and plenty of exhilarating rides. If you're a daredevil try out the Drop Zone or the Inverter to make your heart skip a few beats. Families can enjoy the Carousel and Kemah Train for a more casual amusement ride experience.
For extreme adventure activities, some indoor rock climbing gyms are open on weekend nights, including the Texas Rock Gym and Stone Moves. But if rock climbing just isn't extreme enough for you, try jumping out of a perfectly good airplane with Skydiving Houston. The company provides tandem jumps with an expert for first-timers, and a skydiving school for those intent on learning how to jump solo.
For some old-fashioned roller skating fun, head to Dairy Ashford Roller Rink. This family-run rink has been in operation since 1974. If ice skating is more your style, the Aerodrome in Houston offers public skating on its rink on Friday nights. Music, lights and games keep the evening rolling at Aerodrome.
