The Darien Lake area offers a variety of different camping opportunities for outdoor lovers looking to experience the beauty and tranquility of upstate New York. Campgrounds range from RV parks situated next to major theme park resorts to more isolated tent campgrounds with minimal facilities. The area offers a range of healthy outdoor activities, such as mountain biking, hiking and fishing.

Darien Lake Theme Park Resort

Darien Lake Resort and Splashtown waterpark are popular attractions in the area that provide their very own campgrounds. Both tent camping and RV camping are allowed on the park's more than 600 campsites. Choose from wooded, grassy and shady campsites, all of which are located within easy walking distance of bathrooms, showers, and potable water. All campgrounds are situated within easy walking distance of the theme park rides, games, arcades and other activities.

Darien Lake State Park

For a more tranquil, rugged camping experience, Darien Lake State Park offers a total of 158 campsites surrounded by hilly woodlands, ravines, and rivers. Campsites are equipped with electricity and showers. Available summer activities include large-mouth black bass fishing, hiking, boating and horseback riding. In winter, the park opens a number of scenic trails for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling as well.

Southwoods RV Resort

This fully equipped RV campground offers RV hook ups, grill pits, showers and restroom facilities. Here guests can explore the upstate New York wilderness as they participate in a wide range of activities, including hiking, fishing, swimming, bird watching, basketball and mountain biking. Holiday weekends feature live bands, DJs and other entertainment.

When to Go

In the summer the Darien Lakes region enjoys warm, sunny days and pleasantly cool nights. The winter months, on the other hand, can be downright freezing. However you may want to visit the area during the winter if you enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating and other cold weather activities.

Preparation

Be sure to bring all the necessary camping supplies when camping near Darien Lake. These include bug spray, sunscreen, foul-weather gear, adequate food and water and proper footwear. If you're pitching a tent, make sure it is waterproof in case of rain.
