Choosing the correct way to celebrate a wife's birthday may be a difficult task for some men, according to author John Grey, Ph.D., in his syndicated column "Mars Venus Advice." Knowing your wife's personality will help you decide what she will best enjoy for her birthday. No matter what you decide to do for your wife's birthday, be sure that your gift does not include a tool or appliance, unless such an item is truly on her wish list.

The Day Off

Whether you choose to clean the house or clean her car, taking over a chore that your wife would normally have to complete will bring a smile to her face. When you are cleaning make sure you get all the corners and baseboards so that the house shines. Vacuum, sweep and mop the floors and once you are done light her favorite candle.

Let your wife sleep in while you prepare breakfast and get the children dressed. Prepare a nutritious meal plan for the day and prepare each meal. Clean up after yourself and the family after each meal. Let your wife choose what happens during the day but ensure that you are responsible for the children and pets.

Music

If your wife loves music, take your wife out to see her favorite band. If this isn't possible, make sure that she has their music stocked in her library. If your wife does not have an MP3 player, invest in one your wife can easily upload music to. Upload her favorite music, making sure you include any song that has been important during your relationship. Make a mixed compact disc with songs that symbolize her meaning to you. Set up a compact disc player in the dining room and play the music as the two of you enjoy a romantic dinner.

Travel

Book a birthday vacation. Cruise lines such as the Imperial Majesty offer cruise discounts and will help with a celebration for the birthday girl. If your wife has a favorite destination she has never been to, now is the time to book a romantic trip for the two of you. If your wife does not have a passport and you are planning international travel it will be hard to surprise her with a trip that takes place around her birthday. In this case, put together an itinerary, an application for her passport and an article of clothing representative of the destination and wrap them up. Give the package to her and follow through on the travel plans as soon as her passport application has been approved.

Domestic destinations will allow you to surprise your wife with a trip on her birthday. Plan every detail including a few romantic activities for the two of you to enjoy together, advises the Heavenly Hideaways website. When planning the trip, ensure that all confirmations are made through a separate email address or on a work phone so that your wife does not accidentally discover your surprise.
