Cellulite is a harmless skin condition, but many people find it unsightly and want to eliminate it. Most women have cellulite, according to MayoClinic.com. Cellulite is caused by fibrous cords that connect the skin to the underlying muscle. Fat cell accumulation pushes up against the skin while the tough cords are pulling down, creating a dimpled surface.

Step 1

Lose weight. Restrict calories and increase your physical activity to improve the appearance of dimpled skin. Cellulite may be less noticeable after weight loss, but it will not go away completely, according to MayoClinic.com.

Step 2

Schedule lasers and radio frequency system therapy. You may use a system that combines negative tissue massage, radio frequency and infrared light or a system that provides combined tissue massage with diode laser energy. Both methods require a series of several twice-weekly sessions. According to ABC News, a session of triactive laser dermology may cost $100 and a minimum of 15 sessions is recommended. Results may last for up to six months.

Step 3

Use alternative treatments for cellulite only if you understand the potential risks. Cellulite creams have not been proven to reduce cellulite and may cause skin reactions or rashes. Mesotherapy, in which a solution is injected in the skin, can cause infection, rashes and bumpy or uneven skin contours. Vigorous massage may improve your skin's appearance, but results are typically short-term.

Tips and Warnings

  • Avoid liposuction. It won't remove cellulite. Instead, it may actually make cellulite appear worse.
