If you are seeking treatment for gallstones, supplements containing natural ingredients may help to pass stones from the gallbladder naturally. Often, stones are comprised of acids and fats that have become crystallized in the organs of the body, and may cause symptoms such as bloating, nausea and fatigue. Consult with your physician before taking herbal supplements, as they may interfere with prescription medications and should not be taken when bile ducts are obstructed.

Turmeric

Turmeric is a medicinal spice used in Western herbal medicine as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and digestive remedy. In a study published in "Parasitology Research" in 2011, researchers from Khon Kaen University in Thailand found turmeric had a range of effects on the liver and gallbladder of hamsters. Turmeric in the diet improved bile flow and the contraction of bile ducts, while also reducing inflammation and providing antioxidant protection. Eating turmeric and taking turmeric extract may help you to pass gallstones naturally through the increased flow of bile through the liver and gallbladder.

Dandelion Root

Dandelion root has been used in Western herbal medicine to stimulate and tone the liver and gallbladder. According to herbalist Kerry Bone, author of "Clinical Guide to Blending Liquid Herbs," dandelion root extract is a source of active chemicals that increase the secretion of bile and may be useful in improving liver and gallbladder function. Dandelion root is a traditional herb used for treating gallstones, but must be done so with caution, and avoided during obstruction of the bile ducts. Consult with your health care provider before taking dandelion root supplements or extracts.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint leaves are well-recognized for the aromatic oils that give peppermint its distinctive smell and taste. Peppermint oil is a natural supplement that benefits digestion and supports liver and gallbladder problems, according to naturopath Lani Lopez. In her book "Natural Health," Lopez claims peppermint oil capsules may help to dissolve and pass gallstones, and prevent the crystallization of cholesterol that contributes to gallstone formation.

Homeopathic China

According to James Balch and Mark Stengler, authors of "Prescriptions for Natural Cures," a homeopathic remedy called China is useful for treating gallstones. China comes from the bark of China officinalis, also known as Peruvian bark, and is recommended when gallstones are accompanied by nausea, bloating, flatulence and diarrhea. Homeopathics are natural remedies that use very small dilutions of herbs and minerals to achieve health results. Gallstones can be treated with 30c potency of China daily for a maximum of two weeks, or as directed by the label or health care provider.
