Pectin Grape Juice Home Remedy

The pectin grape juice home remedy is an alternative home treatment for arthritis pain. Pectin is a substance found naturally in the cells of plants, especially fruits. It is extracted and used as a thickening agent in food preservation, such as with jellies and jams. The grape juice is simply a carrier agent, but grape juice contains antioxidants that are beneficial to your health, according to the Mayo Clinic website. The pectin-grape juice mix is a home remedy, and, as such, there are no scientific studies to verify its effectiveness. Like all home remedies, it has been passed down by word of mouth, with numerous testimonials available to read at the People's Pharmacy website.

Step 1

Purchase liquid pectin. While there may be no scientific studies, London South Bank University explains that pectin regulates the flow of fluid in and out of cells and binds cells together. Joint pain can result from a buildup of fluid between the joints, or a breakdown of the joint's cartilage, so anything that can tend to regulate either of these two factors may help with pain relief. Pectin can be found at your grocery store.

Step 2

Purchase grape juice. Due to the fact that you may be drinking this mixture up to three times per day, you should purchase grape juice that is lower in sugar. According to Organic Nutrition, too much sugar in the diet can exacerbate certain types of arthritic conditions, such as gout.

Step 3

Go directly to Step 6 if you have minimal arthritis pain. If you suffer from severe arthritis pain, move on to Step 4.

Step 4

Pour three ounces of grape juice, which is just shy of 1/2 cup, into a glass, and add 2 tsp. of the liquid pectin.

Step 5

Mix well and drink. This mixture should be consumed three times per day. Once your arthritis pain begins to subside, which should be within three to six weeks, you can reduce your intake to the directions in Step 6.

Step 6

Pour one cup of grape juice into a glass and add 2 tsp. of liquid pectin. Drink this once per day, in the morning, to keep arthritis symptoms at bay.
