Hi Lance. You did it so very good. Don´t be sad cause you where not the first today. Maybe you will also be again the first one in another stage. And btw where are the other older riders in the GC? Like Jens Voigte and others? All far behind you. You can be so proud that you are still and again so fit in good shape and condition. Good luck for the next stages. Than will Contador be the leader now? or is it too early to say. Could also Kl? become the leader? Would you also race for him? The Reporters from Eurosport said that they see it not as very likely that Kl? could ever become a leader in this team cause maybe Bruyneel prefers you and other US-Men? and the Kazachs prefer their own men. You have a strong team for tuesday, but who can be the good 5th rider? 4 of you have been so great today that they would already have won the teamtimetrial if it had been today. Hope the 5th will also be able to follow. All the best, much strenght and sleep well. Good night and Love from Cologne Cora.

by annemiekeh on July 4, 2009 at 11:42 AM
Great ride, so good to see you out there again. For the first time since you retired people take an interest again! Common comment over here (the Netherlands) since you quit: no fun anymore now Lance isn't racing!! (So not: we're glad he's gone and the race is much more interesting).
by WeekendRider on July 4, 2009 at 11:44 AM

by glennrobinson68 on July 4, 2009 at 3:35 PM
Im sure it feels good to get that one under your belt, esp. in light of all the coverage/lead-up. etc A+ man. Looking fwd to see the champions rise over 3 weeks. GREAT TEAM - WOW! Dont forget to visit us little Canadians after Win # 8. :)
by speedoflite1 on July 4, 2009 at 3:49 PM
Hate to sound like a "broken record" but I gotta state the obvious: At age 37, post-retirement, etc., I'm sorry Lance didn't have the competitive advantage of starting later in the day as to get winning/ faster split times to measure his progress and dose his efforts against from start to finish. It was a HUGE practical and psychological advantage for Contador and he rightfully took it. Lance really needed top (5) five. But, hey!!!
Psssssst, forget Cancellara, he's done long term, and, so is Menchov who(finished 53rd). Dave Zabriskie (13th)- was most disappointing. Vande Velde (17th) & Sastre (21st) both came up way short, and probably lost the Tour today, assuming they had any dreams of making the podium.
by FreedomLight09 on July 4, 2009 at 4:11 PM
Great job, Lance, for the first day TT. You are so funny with your videos :) I'm glad you're back on the Tour, Do you ever miss your good old buddy Jan U.??

by alanjpatterson on July 5, 2009 at 5:06 AM
Given the temperature and the pre-race nerves(i reacon even you suffer from them)you were awesome,i think you shut a few mouths up and put a few young pretenders in their place, just look at some of the competition already behind you after they raced in better conditions-Do what you do best Lance FUST DO IT MAN-kick ass..
All the best of luck,Alan.
by chrisyorke on July 5, 2009 at 5:09 AM
I don't think I've ever looked forward to the tour as much as I have this year. I think it's going to be very interesting to see how things shape up. Your return has added a whole new dynamic and very enjoyable familiar feel to the tour. I didn't actully realise how much I'd missed your presence in the tour until you returned. Love it!
by fanjosi on July 5, 2009 at 5:14 AM
go lance I believe in you
by fanjosi on July 5, 2009 at 5:15 AM

by Trek5200Fan on July 5, 2009 at 1:02 PM
I had a ride of 60 miles today. I rode strong because I know my ultimate hero works hard too. Very nice VOLVO XC70! My favourite car.
by Scarab777 on July 5, 2009 at 1:56 PM
Lance! It is Ten Years since you won the first of seven Tours de France back in 1999. Fantastic riding! And great inspiration to the Astana team - to have four riders in top ten. Guess I'll go down to Mellow Johnny's tonight to watch the footage and to join in the celebration.
by bbuck1967 on July 5, 2009 at 3:27 PM
JP - NO SEAT BELT?? What up wid dat??!! Thanks for bringing the inside scoop. ROCK ON! BB
by Live4July on July 5, 2009 at 11:12 PM
Great to have you back Lance - everyone looks perkier and more excited to be racing. One question, where is CheChu? Popo's there and I realize some of the other guys on Astana deserve to ride the Tour -- but no Jose Luis Rubiera? How do I get through all this? Go Team - I love 'em all. And, my hearing is excellent, but I have trouble hearing the videos also - and I'm much older than 50! I love the opportunity to support the Ride for Livestrong riders to benefit LDF. You are such an inspiration. Onward! I'm looking forward to a fantastic Tour!
by Live4July on July 5, 2009 at 11:13 PM
I meant benefit LAF - but you knew that! Lance Armstrong Foundation.

There is no doubt in my mind that Astana will have a great performance and that Lance will win the tour the France 2009 and leave us all in awe!!!Specially those who live-wrong and don't believe!!# 1 Lance; # 1.
by attila9998 on July 8, 2009 at 1:56 AM

Go lance, You can do it!!!!!!
