If you spend your morning rushing to get yourself and your family ready for the day, breakfast may easily become an afterthought, if it even ranks as a thought at all. Even on tough days, making sure you make a healthy choice for breakfast can kickstart a day full of healthier choices. The MayoClinic.com website states that adults who eat breakfast regularly exhibit better concentration throughout the morning and are more likely to maintain a healthy weight. Make breakfast a priority to start your morning right.

Instant Oatmeal

If you struggle with time in the morning, make a meal out of instant oatmeal. Throw a couple packets in your purse or briefcase so that you can easily fix it at work if you weren't able to make time at home. To avoid added sugar that often comes in instant oatmeal, choose an unflavored variety. Even if it's unflavored, that doesn't mean you have to resign yourself to tasteless breakfast. Instead of making oatmeal with water, heat it up with vanilla or chocolate soy milk. If that's not your style, add fresh berries, nuts or dried fruit. Adding toppings will add flavor while also increasing your morning nutrient intake.

Whole Wheat Breads

Choose a 100 percent whole wheat bread for your morning meal. You can choose toaster waffles, mini-bagels or regular bread as long as the first ingredient on its labels says "whole wheat" or "whole grain." Look for varieties with a minimum of 3 g of fiber per serving. This will fill you up and keep you satisfied throughout the morning. To round out your meal as suggested by the MayoClinic.com website, add a protein, fruit and lean dairy product. You could top your toast with peanut butter and a sliced banana, with a cup of coffee flavored with skim milk on the side.

Eggs

According to a 2008 study published in the International Journal of Obesity, eating a breakfast with two eggs helped study participants lose more weight than those who ate a breakfast with a bagel. Throw a couple eggs on the skillet in the morning, pop a piece of bread in the toaster, and make a homemade egg sandwich for your morning meal. You can add a slice of low-fat cheese to the sandwich or toss the eggs with sliced tomatoes, bell peppers and onions for a southwestern flair.
