What Are the Calories in Whiskey & Coke?

Whiskey and Coke is a popular drink, but it can contain a lot of calories. If you are watching your caloric intake, keep tabs on the calories in your alcoholic beverages as well as your mixers.

Calories in Whiskey

Alcohol contains approximately 7 calories per gram. Traditional whiskey is 40 percent alcohol by volume on average, or 80 proof, yielding 207 calories per 100 g, or approximately 98 calories per 1.5-oz. shot. Whiskeys with higher alcohol content contain more calories. For example, a 45 percent alcohol or 90 proof whiskey contains 111 calories per 1.5-oz serving.

Calories in Coke

A 12-oz. can of Coca-Cola contains 140 calories. Diet Coke, which has 0 calories in a 12-oz. can, can offer a lower-calorie alternative for making cocktails if you are watching your diet.

Calories in a Whiskey and Coke Cocktail

A 10-oz. whiskey and Coke containing a single shot of 80 proof whiskey has approximately 195 calories. Substituting Diet Coke can reduce this to approximately 98 calories per 10-oz. serving.
