How to Treat Acne With Ice Water

Blemishes are like tiny ninjas--they appear without warning and wreak havoc. Fighting acne with prescriptions and over-the-counter treatments can be pricey, but take heart. You have an inexpensive and convenient acne home remedy right in your kitchen. Ice is known to reduce redness and swelling, which are two of acne’s most painful weapons. Ice water acne treatments can also help stop a blemish if you catch it before the head erupts. Acne ice treatments finish the job by closing the pores so that new bacteria can not sneak in and cause more zits.

Step 1

Wash your face with a mild cleanser, and rinse it thoroughly with warm water. Do not scrub your face with an exfoliant, as this may irritate your skin.

Step 2

Pat your face dry with a clean towel. It is very important for the towel to be clean and unused by you or anyone else so you can be certain it harbors no bacteria.

Step 3

Fill the center of a clean washcloth with ice cubes or crushed ice. Bring the four corners together and twist them to form a little pouch, with the twisted ends as the handle.

Step 4

Dampen the washcloth with water. Don’t soak it, just dribble a little bit of cool water on it so you don’t have to wait for the ice cubes to melt enough to get it wet.

Step 5

Apply the ice to your blemishes, one at a time. suggests holding the ice to your pimple for five to 10 minutes, then letting your skin rest for 10 minutes before deciding if you need to repeat the application. You can also fill a sink with ice water and plunge your face into it, though there is no scientific evidence to prove that this works better than a spot treatment.

Step 6

Drink at least eight glasses of ice water every day. says staying hydrated is an excellent way to help your body’s natural ability to flush out the toxins and keep your skin healthy.
