Approximately 80 percent of all people between the ages of 11 and 30 will experience an acne breakout at some point, according to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases. An acne breakout occurs because of inflammation of the oil glands in your skin and hair follicles. Curing acne is a process, not a two-day affair. Certain steps may reduce the appearance of your acne in a short time, though. If your acne is severe or causes you pain and embarrassment, consult a dermatologist for help.

Although it's unclear exactly what causes acne, researchers hypothesize that acne occurs due to hormonal changes, diet, certain medications and oily makeup. You can't alter your hormones in two days, but you can stop using any greasy makeups, lotions or creams on your face. Keep your hair and face clean, especially after sweating, and avoid wearing hats or helmets, which can make acne worse. Being out in the sun can aggravate acne -- as can sunscreen -- so stay indoors whenever possible. Avoid using harsh toners, astringents and exfoliants that may irritate your skin further and cause immediate reddening. Refrain from picking or popping pimples and cysts, which will only aggravate them. These steps may help reduce the appearance of your acne in a short two days, but for long-term treatment, talk to your doctor about potential dietary changes or medication options, including antibiotics.
